Gifted & Talented
About Us
From the Director
The Indianapolis Public Schools Gifted and Talented Program meets the educational challenges for identified learners by providing an effective curriculum in the regular classroom.
Students have been identified at the end of the second grade by using the test scores on the Terra Nova Test or the Ravens Thinking Ability Test. The Elementary G/T Program is structured to provide learning experiences for students in grades 2-6.
The GT teachers' role is to (differentiate) adapt the learning to meet the needs of the gifted student within the regular classroom setting. There is a variety of enriching opportunities for small group learning; the development of special projects, and independent learning plans. The depth of these activities will increase enthusiasm for learning and broaden the learner's interests, and creativeness.
The parents' role is to model the importance of education. At home, parents should continue to encourage the love of reading, develop an acceptance of responsibilities and the enjoyment of accomplishments. Teaching respect and self-worth are key to successful life-long learning experiences.
We hope this provides you with additional information about the Indianapolis Public Schools Gifted and Talented Program. Other questions may be answered by contacting the GT Coordinator at the school where the student is enrolled.
